Hospitality Health and Safety Online Course in Saudi Arabia: Hotel and Restaurant Safety

Hospitality health and safety course in Saudi Arabia covering food hygiene, kitchen hazards, fire response and guest safety. Study online and get your Certificate of Completion.

  • About 12 to 16 hours of study
  • Language: Arabic and English

What you'll learn

  • Identify the food safety, equipment, housekeeping, guest and fire hazards that cause most hospitality incidents, and recognise the unsafe conditions and unsafe practices that combine to produce them.
  • Apply personal hygiene, handwashing and cross-contamination controls across kitchens, storage areas and food-service counters.
  • Monitor refrigeration, cooking, cooling and hot holding against your workplace's approved limits, and decide what to do when a reading falls outside them.
  • Select and use cleaning chemicals safely, including correct dilution, segregation of incompatible products, and the response to a spill or an exposure.
  • Assess manual handling, slip and ergonomic risks in housekeeping, laundry, food preparation and service, and choose practical controls for each.
  • Operate kitchen equipment with the guards, pre-use checks and isolation rules that apply, and recognise when equipment must be taken out of service.
  • Respond to fire, gas odour, medical and power-failure emergencies within the limits of your training, and assist guests during evacuation.
  • Protect guests in pools, gyms, spas and public areas, and handle allergen enquiries and safety complaints without guessing.
  • Coordinate safely with contractors, delivery drivers and other teams working in shared guest and back-of-house spaces.
  • Build a hazard register, inspection schedule and corrective-action tracker, then map each control to a verified Saudi requirement or a clearly labelled international benchmark.

Course overview

A hospitality health and safety course in Saudi Arabia has to answer questions that arrive mid-shift, not in a classroom. A fridge reading out of range, a guest who mentions a nut allergy at the pass, an unlabelled chemical bottle: each needs a decision, not a manual.
By the end you can walk a kitchen, a guest floor and a pool deck and know what to fix first. The course covers food safety, temperature control, cleaning and chemicals, slips and manual handling, kitchen equipment, fire response and guest safety, then sets the legal layer against the Food Law (Royal Decree M/1), the Labour Law (Royal Decree M/51, Part 8), the Balady health certificate process, the SFDA menu rules in force since 1 July 2025, and Ministry of Tourism criteria.
What separates this course is source discipline. Every Saudi requirement is traced to an official page, and where a question could not be settled, such as whether HACCP is mandatory for a restaurant, the lesson says so and shows you how to check. The SFDA menu rules and Balady steps are current to 2026, and the National Council for Occupational Safety and Health (NCOSH) framing runs through Module 11.
The final module turns all of it into a Hospitality Safety Improvement Plan with a hazard register, controls and records. Finishing this hospitality health and safety course in Saudi Arabia gives you a documented method for your next shift and an Imtithal Academy Certificate of Completion.

Who is this course for?

  • Kitchen assistants, commis chefs and cooks who handle food, operate equipment and need the reasoning behind the rules they follow.
  • Food handlers and catering staff who must hold a Balady health certificate and understand what it does and does not cover.
  • Housekeeping and laundry teams who manage chemicals, manual handling, slips and guest-room safety every day.
  • Restaurant and café supervisors who run shifts, sign off temperature logs and decide when to stop service.
  • Hotel front-office and guest-service staff who receive allergen enquiries, complaints and incident reports.
  • Facilities and maintenance coordinators who schedule contractors and control access to plant rooms and work areas.
  • Health, safety and quality officers in hospitality groups who need a documented Saudi source map for internal training.
  • New entrants to Saudi hospitality, and students preparing for hotel and restaurant roles, who want structured foundations before practical training.

Prerequisites

No prior health and safety qualification is required, and the course is written for beginners including kitchen staff, housekeeping teams, front-of-house employees and new supervisors. The course is available in Arabic and English, and you can study on a computer or phone at your own pace; the total study time is about 12 to 16 hours. Because this is a theoretical course, practical skills such as safe knife use, chemical handling and evacuation must be developed through your employer's supervised training and site induction. Rules and official guidance change, so confirm current requirements with official Saudi sources such as sfda.gov.sa, balady.gov.sa and hrsd.gov.sa before applying them at work.

Assessment

A short quiz after each module and a final assessment. Pass mark: 70%, with up to 3 attempts.

Frequently asked questions

What is hospitality health and safety and why does it matter in Saudi Arabia?

Hospitality health and safety is the set of controls that keep guests and staff safe in hotels, restaurants, cafés and catering operations: food hygiene, temperature control, cleaning chemicals, slips and manual handling, kitchen equipment, fire response and guest protection. It matters in Saudi Arabia because the Food Law (Royal Decree M/1) places duties on food establishments, the Labour Law (Royal Decree M/51, Part 8) places duties on employers to protect and train workers, and municipal inspectors check records rather than intentions. This hospitality health and safety course in Saudi Arabia teaches both sides together.

Is this course suitable for beginners with no safety background?

Yes. The course is pitched at beginner level and builds from the ground up: Module 1 explains what health and safety means in a hotel and a restaurant and who regulates what, Module 2 starts food safety from the three hazard types, and later modules add equipment, fire, guest safety and compliance. No prior qualification, certificate or work experience is required to enrol. Kitchen assistants, housekeeping staff, front-of-house employees and new supervisors all start from the same foundations, and you study at your own pace in about 12 to 16 hours.

Is the Certificate of Completion accredited or government approved?

No. You receive an Imtithal Academy Certificate of Completion, which is evidence of theoretical study you can add to your CV, LinkedIn profile or employer training records. It is not a licence, not a government accreditation, and not a substitute for the Balady health certificate that food handlers must obtain through the Balady platform. We state this plainly so you can plan your training path with clarity. Any claim that a private hospitality safety certificate is government recognised should be verified directly with the authority concerned.

Does this course replace the Balady health certificate for food handlers?

No, and the course explains the difference in Module 11. The Balady health certificate is a municipal requirement for food and public health activities: the worker applies through the Balady platform, undergoes a medical examination at a Ministry of Health approved centre, passes the health education programme where it applies in that city, pays the fee and prints the certificate, with execution typically taking 4 to 10 days. This course is education. It helps you understand why the certificate exists and how fitness-to-work decisions protect guests, but it does not issue or replace it.

What does the course cover on food temperature control?

Module 3 is dedicated to time and temperature: why the danger zone matters, how to receive deliveries and reject damaged or warm food, refrigeration and freezer management, stock rotation and storage separation, then cooking, reheating, cooling and hot holding. Lesson 3.5 works through a refrigerator reading outside the approved range when the duration of the deviation is unknown, and teaches you to hold the food, escalate to a supervisor, record the decision and document the corrective action. Limits are taught as items to verify against your workplace's approved procedure, not as numbers to memorise.

How does the course handle cleaning chemicals and spills?

Module 4 covers cleaning versus disinfection, reading chemical labels and safety information, approved dilution and containers, why incompatible products must never be mixed, and safe storage in housekeeping rooms. Lesson 4.3 is a scenario lesson on a chemical spill or an unidentified bottle, teaching you to secure the area, prevent further exposure, follow the product-specific emergency instructions, and call for trained assistance and medical support. Module 8 then applies the same principles to spa and pool chemicals rather than repeating the lesson.

Which Saudi laws and authorities does the course reference?

The course anchors food duties in the Food Law (Royal Decree M/1) and the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA), workplace duties in the Labour Law (Royal Decree M/51, Part 8, Articles 121 to 131 bis) under the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development (HRSD) and the National Council for Occupational Safety and Health (NCOSH), health certificates in Balady municipal procedures, fire safety in Civil Defense requirements, and property standards in Ministry of Tourism classification criteria. The Saudi Building Code volume SBC 801 is cited for fire protection. Codex, HACCP, ISO 45001 and OSHA are labelled as benchmarks, never as Saudi law.

How long do I have to complete the course, and how am I assessed?

The course is self-paced with about 12 to 16 hours of study, and you can study on a phone or computer around shift patterns. Assessment includes 12 module quizzes of 10 questions each with answers and explanations, a 50-question final assessment at a 70% pass mark with up to 3 attempts, and a capstone improvement plan self-assessed against a published rubric. Every assessment number on this page matches the built course. When you pass, the Imtithal Academy Certificate of Completion is issued.

What is the capstone project and how does it help my career?

The capstone is a Hospitality Safety Improvement Plan for a fictional Saudi hospitality operation. You produce nine deliverables: a workplace description, a hazard register covering at least five hazard categories, risk ratings with a stated method, proposed controls, a mapping to verified Saudi requirements or labelled benchmarks, an inspection and recordkeeping schedule, a corrective-action tracker with owners and dates, a staff communication plan, and a source list with assumptions. A model answer and rubric are provided so you can self-assess. The finished plan is a portfolio piece for supervisor and safety roles.

Is this course legal advice or a substitute for practical training?

No on both counts. The course is professional education: it teaches principles, verified sources and verification habits, not advice on a specific matter, and your employer's procedures and current official requirements always govern real operations. It is also a theoretical course by design. Practical skills such as safe knife handling, chemical dilution, manual lifting technique and evacuation leadership require hands-on training and supervised practice at your workplace, which this course cannot provide and does not claim to provide. The scope statement appears on this page, in the lessons and in the certificate framing.
