ISO 27001 Online Course Saudi Arabia: ISMS Implementation

ISO 27001 course for Saudi Arabia covering ISMS implementation, risk treatment, Annex A controls, internal audit and NCA applicability. Enrol and receive a Certificate of Completion.

  • About 7 to 9 hours
  • Language: Arabic and English

What you'll learn

  • Define an ISMS scope with justified boundaries and exclusions for a Saudi organisation, including cloud services and outsourced systems.
  • Run an information security risk assessment: asset identification, risk criteria, scoring, prioritisation and documented rationale.
  • Build a risk treatment plan and a defensible Statement of Applicability that links each Annex A control to an assessed risk or requirement.
  • Implement and evidence Annex A controls across the organisational, people, physical and technological themes, with each control correctly referenced.
  • Operate incident management aligned to ISO/IEC 27001 Clause 8 and Annex A controls A.5.24 to A.5.28, with evidence that survives an audit.
  • Distinguish an internal security event from a reportable incident, including the conditional 72-hour personal data breach notification under Article 24 of the PDPL Implementing Regulations.
  • Map your ISMS to Saudi requirements, including the NCA Essential Cybersecurity Controls (ECC), the Personal Data Protection Law (PDPL) and sector or contractual duties, without assuming universal applicability.
  • Plan and run an ISMS internal audit programme, record findings, drive root-cause corrective action and support management review.
  • Prepare an organisation for Stage 1 and Stage 2 certification audits and plan surveillance cycles.
  • Build a prioritised 90-day ISMS implementation roadmap with owners, milestones, evidence and success measures.

Course overview

An ISO 27001 course proves its value in the decisions it trains, not the clauses it recites. In Saudi organisations, the failures are rarely missing firewalls; they are missing decisions: risks accepted without a recorded owner, a Statement of Applicability written once for an audit and never maintained, and an incident procedure that stops where a regulator question begins. This ISO 27001 course trains the management system that closes those gaps.

The course follows ISO/IEC 27001:2022 clause by clause and control theme by control theme: the ISMS concept and PDCA cycle, context and scope, leadership and objectives, risk assessment and treatment, the Statement of Applicability, Annex A controls across organisational, people, physical and technological themes, operational planning, incident management, business continuity, performance evaluation, internal audit and continual improvement. Alongside the standard, it teaches the Saudi layer: how the National Cybersecurity Authority's Essential Cybersecurity Controls, the PDPL and its Implementing Regulations, and sector or contractual duties attach to an ISMS, and how applicability is assessed rather than assumed. It is built as an on-demand online course in ISMS implementation for IT managers, security professionals, risk and compliance officers and internal auditors working in Saudi organisations.

The course is practical and current. It includes ISO/IEC 27001:2022/Amd 1:2024, the climate-action amendment, and teaches you to assess its relevance rather than assume it creates a control. The Saudi regulatory lessons work from official sources: the NCA's published controls, the PDPL (Royal Decree M/19, as amended) and the Implementing Regulations issued by the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA), including the conditional 72-hour breach notification in Article 24 with its harm trigger. Every lesson carries a Saudi scenario, from a Riyadh software house scoping its ISMS for a government tender to a logistics firm handling a ransomware incident with possible personal data involvement, and every practice exercise comes with a model answer so you can check your own decisions as you study.

You finish with an integrated capstone: a 90-day ISMS implementation roadmap for a 200-employee Saudi fintech, built from a case-study fact pack and scored against a published rubric with a model answer. This ISO 27001 course ends with the Imtithal Academy Certificate of Completion when you pass the final assessment.

Frequently asked questions

What is ISO 27001 and why does it matter for organisations in Saudi Arabia?

ISO/IEC 27001:2022 is the international standard for an Information Security Management System, a governed framework of policies, risk decisions and controls that protects the confidentiality, integrity and availability of information. In Saudi Arabia it matters twice over: commercially, because clients, government buyers and partners increasingly ask for evidence of structured security governance, and regulatorily, because the National Cybersecurity Authority's Essential Cybersecurity Controls and the Personal Data Protection Law expect organisations to manage information security risks in ways an ISMS is designed to support. This ISO 27001 course teaches you to build and run that system in a Saudi context.

What does this ISO 27001 course in Saudi Arabia cover?

It covers the full ISMS cycle: the standard's structure and certification concepts, context, scope, leadership and objectives, risk assessment and treatment, the Statement of Applicability, Annex A controls across all four themes, operational planning, incident management, business continuity, performance evaluation, internal audit, management review and continual improvement. It adds the Saudi layer: NCA Essential Cybersecurity Controls applicability, PDPL security duties including the conditional 72-hour breach notification, and sector or contractual obligations. Every lesson uses a Saudi scenario, and every practice exercise comes with a model answer.

What level is this course and who is it suitable for?

This is an intermediate course, suitable for IT managers, information security professionals, cybersecurity analysts, risk and compliance officers, internal auditors and consultants who work with systems, controls or compliance processes. No prior ISO 27001 experience is needed: the course defines every term and builds from the foundations to a 90-day implementation roadmap. If you are completely new to information security, you can still complete it, but expect to spend the full 12 to 16 hours working through the scenarios and practical exercises.

Is the Certificate of Completion accredited?

The Certificate of Completion is the Imtithal Academy Certificate of Completion. It evidences that you completed the course and passed the final assessment, and you can add it to your CV, LinkedIn profile or employer training records. It is not an ISO certification, a Lead Implementer or Lead Auditor credential, or a government accreditation, and no certification body issues or endorses it. If your goal is a certified credential, that examination is a separate product offered by certification bodies, and this course gives you the implementation knowledge such exams assume.

Is this course legal or compliance advice?

No. The course is education: it teaches you the ISO/IEC 27001 framework, the implementation methods and the documentation habits to run an ISMS in your own role. It does not constitute legal advice and does not create an adviser relationship. Real decisions depend on the applicable facts, the current official texts and your organisation's sector and licences, so for decisions specific to your circumstances, consult your legal or compliance function and verify current requirements on the official NCA, SDAIA and ISO sources.

How does the course handle the NCA Essential Cybersecurity Controls?

The course teaches the ECC as an applicability question, not a slogan. You learn the controls' purpose and structure, who falls under their official scope, the difference between mandatory applicability and voluntary use as a benchmark, and how to map NCA requirements to ISO 27001 controls without assuming one-to-one equivalence. Because frameworks are updated, the course also trains the verification habit: locate the current official NCA publication, record the version and access date, and reassess applicability when your organisation's activities or the framework change.

Does the 72-hour breach notification rule apply to every security incident?

No, and this distinction is one of the course's core lessons. Under Article 24 of the PDPL Implementing Regulations, the 72-hour notification to SDAIA applies where a personal data breach may harm the personal data or the data subject, or conflict with their rights or interests. A cybersecurity incident without personal data involvement raises different questions, including possible duties under NCA or sector rules depending on your organisation's scope. The course trains a triage workflow: classify the event, assess whether personal data is involved, identify the applicable authorities and record the decision.

How is this course assessed?

Each of the 10 modules ends with a 10-question quiz, 100 questions in total, with the correct answer and an explanation shown after each question. The final assessment has 40 unique multiple-choice questions built to a published blueprint covering the standard's structure, Saudi regulatory applicability, risk assessment and treatment, Annex A implementation, incident response, internal audit and integrated decision-making. The pass mark is 70% (28 of 40) with up to 3 attempts. The capstone, a 90-day ISMS roadmap, is self-assessed against a rubric with a model answer.

Do I need a copy of the ISO 27001 standard to take this course?

No. The course teaches the standard's structure, requirements and controls in its own words, with paraphrased guidance rather than reproduced standard text. For your implementation work you will eventually want an authorised copy of ISO/IEC 27001:2022 and ISO/IEC 27002:2022, and the course explains how to verify exact control titles against authorised sources, a habit that also protects you when editions are amended, as Amendment 1:2024 showed.

How does ISO 27001 relate to the PDPL and other Saudi requirements?

They answer different questions. ISO 27001 is a voluntary conformity standard for managing information security; the PDPL is a binding law on personal data processing, and the NCA's controls bind the entities within their official scope. The course teaches you to build one ISMS evidence base that serves several frameworks: risk assessments, control records, incident procedures and audit evidence mapped to each applicable requirement. It also teaches the limit: an ISO 27001 certificate does not, by itself, establish PDPL compliance or NCA compliance, and the course never presents it that way.
